The use of ChatGPT for preparing bachelor’s and master’s theses in the exact sciences is analysed in an article by Sanda Voinea and Mihnea Dobre (CCEA), published on the University of Bucharest’s CARFIA platform. The study assessed how master’s students from the Faculty of Physics perceive and utilize this AI tool, having them query ChatGPT on advanced research topics within their fields of expertise.
Most students found ChatGPT to be a helpful support tool for clarifying concepts and organizing ideas, but not a primary source for scientific papers. Limitations were noted, such as errors in response to specific questions and significant ethical concerns. These included the lack of proper source citation and the risk of diminishing research skills.
