Ethics in the Age of Technology: Emilian Mihailov, Guest on “Știința 360” at Radio România Cultural

Emilian Mihailov, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Bucharest, and Director of the Research Centre in Applied Ethics (CCEA), was recently Corina Negrea’s guest on the show “Știința 360” at Radio România Cultural. The discussion focused on how technological progress, especially artificial intelligence (AI), is transforming society and the need for continuous ethical evaluation.

This interview followed an important event organized by CCEA, on April 10th, namely the tenth edition of the “Bucharest-Oxford Workshops in Practical Ethics.” This international event, conducted in partnership with the Oxford Uehiro Institute, brought together philosophers from universities in Oxford, Bucharest, and Singapore to debate current topics in applied ethics, including the impact of AI and polygenic editing.

During the show, Emilian Mihailov explained how artificial intelligence is transforming lives, values, and decisions, emphasizing that questions about ethics can no longer be sidelined. He also advocated for an open society that critically evaluates new technologies, stating that “we must be open to evaluating it, not rejecting it ab initio.”
