Constantin Vică explored the urgent political and social dynamics of the digital era in his talk titled “Hic sunt dracones: The Digital Middle Ages and Authoritarian Technologies.” on the 5th of June 2025.
Constantin Vică’s presentation asserted that the exit from the “Gutenberg Parenthesis” (the age of print literacy) is transforming our social media feeds into a medieval rumour market. Simultaneously, platform algorithms function as our new feudal overlords, governing human existence universally through algorithmic action.
The presentation aimed to map the unknown territory where invisible “dragons” manipulate public attention and highlights the severe risk that democracy may be compromised by this societal re-oralization process.
